He took a lot of heat for the Esks defensive performance this past season, particularly in the first half of the year... perhaps more than his share of heat given the hand he was dealt.  Plenty of transition to deal with in terms of personnel, a rookie HC learning on the job and a couple of key injuries that impacted plans/ratio.  A good HC takes heat in order to keep it off his players, and a good veteran coordinator takes some of the heat off of the head coach.  I never once saw Daley point the finger elsewhere, even though Hall likely knew exactly what he was getting in term of philosophy and style when he brought on Daley.

It's being phrased as a resignation for personal reasons, but I'm hoping that it is a football decision in disguise and not anything reflective of health.

Some of the names I'd like to see given consideration would be... Brad Miller (currently in Hamilton), Kavis Reed (currently with Riders - for those that haven't read a paper in the past few weeks), Leroy Blugh (HC at Bishops in CIS), Chris Jones (Cgy - may be tough to lure for equivalent position) and a name that is bound to pop up frequently, Rich Stubler (Argo-paid vacation).  I'm just not sure if Stubes is a fit for Hall's vision, both in terms of defensive philosophy and also in terms of expected level of control.  I'm anticipating that with a year of head coaching under his belt, Hall will want to be a little more involvement in the defence going forward.

I was never really a big 'Daley' fan, but I am surprised by this move.  Considering all of the change this year, I expected him to be back and the defense to be much better if for no other reason than 'fewer changes'.
