Wow, you could not have set up a better final week of CFL unless the entire year was scripted.

Its basically a pre-playoff playoff.

Edmonton- BC: Winner advances. Loser must wait until final game of the year is complete to see if they can sneak in the back door.

Montreal-Toronto: Montreal is the only team that knows what place they will finish in and get the bye this week. Well okay, they play Toronto ... same thing.

Calgary-Saskatchewan: Winner finishes first and gets a week off. Loser finishes second and has to play an extra game next week.

Hamilton-Winnipeg: Only two teams playing in this one but three teams will be effected! Winnipeg wins and finish second with a home playoff game, lose they are out and the western loser of BC and Edmonton are in.

I don't remember ever seeing a final week like this. There are no better matchup combinations for how the standings currently are and should be determined. So who you cheering for?

Edmonton-BC: Edmonton
Toronto-Montreal: Yawn
Calgary-Saskatchewan:  SASKATCHEWAN
Winnipeg-Hamilton: Hamilton

I think there must be a law against that kind of 'fixin' Terry! You know the the ghost of Piffles Taylor will now hand out the justice. ;-)

besides, why would Calgary want to play their home game in Regina next week? ;-)

Probably because there's fewer Rider fans there than when they play at McMahon.

Looks like lots of ghosts arose out of the wheatlands tonight...especially those of the Little General and Leif Pettersen from that 1976 'rider squad, Brad! Sad

Congratulations to you and all other long-suffering 'rider fans in your first 1st place finish in the last one-third of a century.... Smiley

Maybe Calgary will get another chance to exorcise all of those ghosts a coupla weekends from now...

You know how the old saying goes Terry. Every once in a while even a blind prairie dog can get to the other side to the Trans Canada Highway without becoming pavement pizza. Grin

Good one, Dale.  Wink

Say, shouldn't be getting your Ti-Cats face paint on and gathering your paraphenalia together for big-time cheering today?

I don't think it much matters Bill. I haven't heard anything yet but I think we're pretty much down to 5th stringer Zac Champion. I don't know what the status is with Jackson and Lulay but I think Printers and Pierce are done for the year. Rumour has it Printers has a broken thumb on his throwing hand and Pierce re-seperated his throwing shoulder. If Jackson and Lulay can't go then BC may not even have a backup to dress for any playoff run.

Ulrich was speculating that Lulay may be cleared to play.  Printers was thought to have a similar injury (thumb ligaments) as to what hampered him in Hamilton last year, while I've heard dislocated collarbone for Buck.  I wouldn't be surprised to see the Leos put in a call to a guy like Ben Sankey, who's played under Buono before.  The Argos have dressed only two QBs most of the year, and the Esks did it on Friday (Zabransky unable to go because of flu), but neither team has been snakebit at the position to the degree that the Lions have been.

Ryan Leaf, who now lives in Vancouver doing sales for a high end fishing lodge, was on hand to present a prize on Friday... just in case things get too desperate.

Lions will definitely have to go to more of a "distributor" role for their QB if Printers can't go.  They've got some decent weapons and need to do a better job of getting them the ball in space to make plays.  Of course, job number one is to shore up the run defence, though I seem to remember a pretty good rebound after Winnipeg ate their lunch earlier in the year.

Lulay may be OK. Something I heard last night indicated his absence from the lineup Friday was more flu related than physical. The flu has been going around for sure. I don't know if it hit the Lions any harder than any other teams but apparently close to 1/3 of their roster missed varying amounts of practice last week. If BC were to be down to Champion and maybe one dinged up backup I pondered over on Lionbackers if they could install a Miami-like wildcat offence in just one week. If they are in a situation where they have to rely on Champion to get to the Grey Cup the odds are very slim given the road to Calgary must past through Montreal. So why not go totally off the wall with something. Big games and even championships have been won in the past when a team comes out with something totally out of left field. In 1940 the Chicago Bears romped to a 73-0 win over Washington in the NFL title game when they introduced the never before seen T-formation. Not that the wildcat is something new given the Dolphins' recent success but it certainly would be something no CFL team has had to prepare for.
